Minneapolis (Minnesota, USA), 15 January (LaPresse/AP) – Renewed tensions have erupted in Minneapolis after a federal officer shot a man in the leg. In a statement describing the events leading up to yesterday's shooting, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said federal law enforcement officers had stopped a person from Venezuela who was in the United States illegally. The person fled in a car and crashed into a parked car before fleeing on foot. After officers caught up with him, two other individuals arrived from a nearby apartment and all three began assaulting the officer. ‘Fearing for his life and safety while being attacked by three individuals, the officer fired one shot in self-defence,’ the DHS said. The two individuals who came out of the flat are in custody, while the man who was shot is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
