London (United Kingdom), 13 January (LaPresse/AP) – According to court documents, the BBC will ask the court to dismiss the £10 billion lawsuit filed by US President Donald Trump against the British broadcaster. Trump filed a lawsuit in December over the BBC's editing of his 6 January 2021 speech. The claim, filed in a Florida court, seeks £3.5 billion in damages for defamation and £3.5 billion for unfair trade practices. The broadcaster apologised to Trump for its editing of the 6 January speech. But the publicly funded BBC has rejected the defamation allegations. Documents filed yesterday in the Southern District Court of Florida state that the BBC will file a motion to dismiss the case on the grounds that the court has no jurisdiction, the venue is “inappropriate” and Trump “has not filed a claim”.
