Milan, 8 January (LaPresse) – In response to a question regarding the United States' seizure of the Russian-flagged tanker Marinera, linked to Venezuela, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that the arbitrary seizure by the United States of other countries' ships on the high seas seriously violates international law. China has always opposed illegal unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law and are not authorised by the United Nations Security Council, Mao Ning stressed, and opposes any action that violates the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and infringes on the sovereignty and security of other countries.
