Beijing, Jan. 3 (LaPresse) – China expressed deep shock and strong condemnation of the use of force by the United States against Venezuela and the action taken against its president. A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the U.S. operation an hegemonic act that seriously violates international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty, putting peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean at risk. "We urge the United States to respect international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, and to cease violations of the sovereignty and security of other countries," the spokesperson said. Beijing reiterated its firm opposition to U.S. intervention.
