Rome, 31 December (LaPresse) – Taiwan has remained on high alert after China's massive military exercises around the island and is keeping its maritime emergency response centre active to monitor Chinese naval manoeuvres, the coastguard said. The exercises, called “Justice Mission 2025”, saw China launch dozens of rockets towards Taiwan and deploy a large number of warships and aircraft near the island in a show of force that has raised concerns among Western allies. Taipei condemned the exercises, calling them a threat to regional security and a blatant provocation. According to Kuan Bi-ling, head of Taiwan's Ocean Affairs Council, Chinese ships are moving away from Taiwan, but Beijing has not yet formally declared an end to the exercises. ‘The maritime situation has calmed down, with ships and boats gradually leaving. As China has not announced the conclusion of the military exercises, the emergency response centre remains operational,’ she said in a Facebook post.
