Moscow, Dec. 10 (LaPresse) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s promise to hold elections in Ukraine seems like a puppet show, with a puppeteer controlling the strings of his marionettes. This is what Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Radio Sputnik.
“So a state, endlessly emphasizing the importance of independence for itself, would demand that other countries guarantee the possibility of holding elections and at the same time call these elections ‘democratic,’” Zakharova said, referring to the security guarantees and legislative changes requested by Zelensky to hold the vote. “It is, you know, like in a puppet theater. One of them would say: ‘Listen, when will we have a show called ‘Elections’? When will someone guide us through this performance?’”
“I think this represents a completely new level of cynicism,” Zakharova added. “Even for Zelensky, it is a challenge, considering what he has already done. For example, I do not recall a single country that demanded other states guarantee the holding of elections on its territory without declaring that it had lost its own independence and sovereignty.”
