(LaPresse) – Speaking at the Süddeutsche Zeitung economic forum, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reiterated the need to ‘develop a European Defence Union within the European Union to effectively counter current threats, including cyber attacks’. ‘The threat to Ukraine is also a permanent threat to our democracies, our freedom and our way of life,’ said the Chancellor, who concluded his speech with a call for Germany and Europe to act jointly and decisively in the face of global crises to ensure stability, competitiveness and security in the future.
