USA: hundreds of flights canceled due to shutdown

Rome, Nov 7 (LaPresse) – Millions of Americans planning to fly this month could see their plans canceled weeks before the holiday season if the longest government shutdown in U.S. history continues.

Starting today, the Trump administration will reduce flights by 4% at 40 airports nationwide, gradually increasing the cut to 10% by next Friday if the shutdown persists, according to an emergency order from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Several major airlines have already preemptively canceled hundreds of flights scheduled for today and over the weekend. Airline officials told CNN that the cancellations will have a weather-like impact on airlines, but unlike a storm, they will affect multiple cities rather than a single geographic area.
