Rome, 7 November (LaPresse) – "According to available information, at least 1,436 citizens from 36 African countries are currently fighting in the ranks of the Russian invasion army in Ukraine. The number represents identified citizens, although the actual number could be higher.‘ This was reported on X by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. ’Russia recruits citizens of African countries using various methods. Some are offered money, while others are deceived and do not realise what they are enlisting for or are forced to do so under duress," he added. According to Sybiha, “signing a contract is equivalent to signing a death warrant” because “foreign citizens in the Russian army have a sad fate”, namely that of becoming “cannon fodder”. “The Russian command is aware that there will be no accountability for foreigners killed, so they are treated as second-class, expendable human material,” he concluded.
