Islamabad (Pakistan), 19 October (LaPresse) – Afghanistan and Pakistan, involved in over a week of fighting that has caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, according to reports from the Qatari Foreign Ministry. This is the most serious crisis between the two countries in recent years. The parties have agreed to establish mechanisms to consolidate lasting peace and stability and to hold follow-up talks in the coming days to ensure the sustainability of the truce, according to Qatar's statement. Qatar and Turkey mediated the negotiations, the statement added. Violence between the two neighbouring countries has escalated since the beginning of this month, with each side claiming to be responding to the other's aggression.
