The news was released in a statement from Prince Andrew distributed by Buckingham Palace and comes amid the scandal linked to his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. The younger brother of King Charles III stated that he and the royal family have decided that "the ongoing allegations against me distract from the work of Her Majesty and the royal family." The news follows the publication of excerpts from the posthumous memoir of Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was a victim of sex trafficking by Epstein and had sexual relations with Andrew when she was 17 years old.
