Washington (USA), 15 October (LaPresse) – The Trump administration has authorised the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela, intensifying its campaign against Nicolás Maduro. This was reported by the New York Times, citing two administration officials. The authorisation, notes the NYT, is the latest step in the Trump administration's intensifying pressure campaign against Venezuela. For weeks, US military forces have been targeting boats off the Venezuelan coast that, according to the administration, are transporting drugs, killing 27 people. The New York Times sources stressed that the ultimate goal is to oust Maduro from power. The new authority granted by President Trump would allow the CIA to conduct lethal operations in Venezuela and a series of operations in the Caribbean.
