Turin, 15 October (LaPresse) – The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that its trucks began arriving in the Gaza Strip today for the first time in two days, after the crossings were closed due to the exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas. The increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza, with hundreds of lorries entering every day, is part of the ceasefire agreement. However, on Tuesday, Israel announced that it would reduce the number of lorries, claiming that Hamas was taking too long to return the bodies of the hostages. ‘Our lorries have entered Gaza, but we are still at the beginning of the ceasefire and the situation remains unpredictable,’ said Abeer Etefa, WFP spokesperson. ‘We hope that access will improve in the coming days.’ Etefa added that fewer than 200 WFP lorries had managed to enter on Sunday. ‘We are scaling up our bread-making and nutrition programmes and have successfully started organising food distributions in several areas of Gaza.’
