Ukraine, Orban: ‘Hungary has no moral obligation to support EU membership’

Milan, 7 October (LaPresse) – ‘Hungary has no moral obligation to support Ukraine's accession to the EU.’ Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote this in a post on X. ‘No country has ever used blackmail to join the European Union, and it will not happen this time either. The Treaty on European Union leaves no room for ambiguity: accession is decided by the Member States, unanimously,’ he said. ‘The Hungarian people have made their decision. They said no to Ukraine's accession to the EU by a large majority in a referendum.’ ‘If you want to change this situation,’ he emphasised, addressing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, ‘the media campaign you are waging against Hungary is probably not the best way to make friends.’
