Turin, 7 October (LaPresse) – ‘We are close to the end of the war.’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made this statement on the second anniversary of the 7 October attack in an interview with American commentator Ben Shapiro's podcast, as reported by Israeli media. ‘What began in Gaza will end in Gaza, with the release of our hostages and the end of Hamas rule,’ he explained. Netanyahu opened the interview by recalling 7 October as ‘the most horrific event the Jewish people have known since the Holocaust,’ stating that ‘everyone thought Israel was finished, but two years later we have destroyed the Iranian axis and its offshoots.’ ‘Hamas has not yet been destroyed, but we will get there,’ he continued, adding that Hezbollah, Syria and the Houthis have also suffered heavy blows. ‘Since that day, Israel has emerged as the strongest state in the region, but there are still missions to complete the victory.’ ‘We want to see our hostages home, and we are close, even if we have not yet succeeded. At the same time, we can look back and recognise a surprising fact: from the deepest despair, we have risen and returned to being the dominant power in the Middle East, perhaps stronger than ever. And that is something for which we can truly be grateful,’ Netanyahu concluded.
