Washington (USA), 3 October (LaPresse) – A hearing is underway in New York to announce the sentence for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the hip-hop mogul convicted in July for flying a number of people across the country for sexual encounters, including his girlfriends and some prostitutes. The jury acquitted Combs, 55, of more serious charges of conspiracy and sex trafficking, which could have resulted in a life sentence. On the eve of the hearing, Combs wrote to Judge Arun Subramanian asking for leniency and proclaiming himself ‘reborn’ after realising he was ‘rotten to the core’. Combs will be sentenced under the Mann Act, which makes it illegal to transport people across state lines for prostitution or other illegal sexual acts. Prosecutors, who are seeking a sentence of more than 11 years, urged the judge to reject the plea for leniency, saying witnesses fear for their safety if he is released.
