Washington (USA), 1 October (LaPresse) – The Supreme Court has decided to hear the case of President Donald Trump's dismissal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, paving the way for a confrontation that could have profound repercussions on the Fed's independence. The Court has announced that it will hear arguments in the case in January. Cook will remain in her position for now, as the Court has postponed its decision on Trump's request to remove her immediately. The High Court's decision came months after the majority of judges appeared to have drawn a line of protection around the Fed, defining the central bank as a “uniquely structured” entity with a “distinct historical tradition” that protects it from presidential politics.
