Frankfurt (Germany), Oct. 1 (LaPresse) – "I am pleased to be in Copenhagen for the informal Council. I would like to sincerely thank the Danish presidency and my colleague Mette Frederiksen for their hospitality. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to the German Air Force and Navy for their contribution in ensuring that this European Council takes place safely," said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz upon his arrival at the EU summit.
"We will need to discuss two important issues: the competitiveness of European industry and the high, excessive level of regulation in Europe. Secondly, unfortunately, we will have to discuss once again the war against Ukraine. We want to try to adopt new measures, including with regard to the defense of that country. I am very pleased that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be here tomorrow and that we will have the opportunity to engage in an in-depth discussion on our continued support for Ukraine in this war that Russia has been waging against this innocent country for now three and a half years," Merz added.
