Milan, 1 October (LaPresse) – Farewell to Jane Goodall. The British ethologist, famous for her revolutionary field research on chimpanzees and her commitment to the environment around the world, has died at the age of 91. The Jane Goodall Institute announced the news on Instagram, reporting that Goodall died of natural causes while in California for a lecture tour in the United States. While living among chimpanzees in Africa decades ago, Goodall documented the animals' use of tools and other activities previously thought to be unique to humans. She also noted their distinct personalities. Her observations and subsequent appearances in magazines and documentaries in the 1960s transformed the way the world perceived not only humans' closest biological relatives, but also the emotional and social complexity of all animals, bringing her to the forefront of public opinion. Her discoveries ‘revolutionised science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world,’ the Institute said.
