Istanbul (Turkey), 19 September (LaPresse/AP) – There is ‘absolutely no evidence’ that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to negotiate peace in Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the British secret service MI6, the Secret Intelligence Service, Sir Richard Moore, in a farewell speech at the British consulate in Istanbul. After five years at the helm of the agency, Moore will step down at the end of September. Putin ‘is playing games with us,’ he said. He added: "He is trying to impose his imperial will by all means at his disposal. But he cannot succeed.‘ ’Frankly, Putin has overreached. He thought he would get an easy victory. But he, like many others, underestimated the Ukrainians," Moore continued. It was during his tenure that, in February 2022, Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, starting the war that is still ongoing.
