Brussels, 15 September (LaPresse) – ‘Today, it seemed to me, without a doubt, that there was an urgent need to provide immediate answers, also in order to increase the level of trust among citizens.’ This was stated by the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Raffaele Fitto, during the presentation of Donato Bendicenti's book, ‘Al centro della tempesta’ (At the centre of the storm), at the Italian Embassy in Brussels. ‘In the immediate term, we need to overcome the complexity of the single market, which can represent a great opportunity, including by working on simplification,’ he added. As for the multiannual budget, ‘achieving a level of flexibility that allows us to identify potential risks, in my experience, represents an innovation at European level’ because ‘it is unthinkable to have a rigid budget that lasts seven years without looking at what is happening around us.’
