Ukraine, US to G7: "Impose tariffs on countries buying oil from Russia"

Washington, Sept. 13 (LaPresse) – United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held a phone call with his G7 counterparts, along with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Greer and Bessent reiterated President Trump’s call to our G7 partners to join the United States in imposing tariffs on countries that purchase oil from Russia, if they are truly committed to ending the war in Ukraine. They also welcomed the commitment to increase sanctions pressure and to consider using frozen Russian sovereign assets to further support Ukraine’s defense.

"Only through a joint effort that cuts off the revenues funding Putin’s war machine at the source will we be able to exert sufficient economic pressure to end this senseless massacre," said Ambassador Greer and Secretary Bessent. "Thanks to President Trump’s courageous leadership, the United States has already taken drastic measures against buyers of Russian oil. We are encouraged by the assurances from our G7 colleagues regarding their commitment to ending this war and hope they will join us in taking decisive action at this critical moment."
