Gaza, UN Assembly supports two-state solution but without Hamas

Rome, Sept. 12 (LaPresse) – The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly approved a declaration calling for “tangible, timebound, and irreversible steps” toward a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, explicitly excluding Hamas. The New York Declaration was passed with 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions. The resolution condemns Hamas’s October 7 attacks and demands the group release all hostages. Among the opponents: Argentina, Hungary, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tongа, Israel, and the United States.
