Frankfurt (Germany), Sept. 10 (LaPresse) – "It is a new level of threat: we have seen Russian drones fly over, and in significant numbers, the airspace of a NATO member state. Moscow must know that the Alliance is capable of acting and will react to defend its territory." This was said by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, at a press conference in Berlin with his Dutch counterpart David van der Weel, responding to a question about Warsaw’s recourse to Article 4 of the NATO Treaty. Wadephul specified that currently the situation is not at the stage foreseen by Article 5, which establishes the Alliance’s collective defense: "At this stage, however, it is correct to precisely analyze what happened, with what intention, and to carefully prepare for possible events of this kind." The minister emphasized that the incident demonstrates the Alliance’s readiness and solidarity: "NATO is operational and united. This capacity for action and this cohesion are the best deterrence to prevent the Alliance’s territory from ever being seriously attacked."
