Madrid (Spain), Sept. 8 (LaPresse) – Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has lashed out against the Spanish government under Pedro Sanchez after the Iberian prime minister announced the adoption of nine measures to "stop the genocide in Gaza." "The Spanish government is pursuing a hostile anti-Israeli line, with wild and hateful rhetoric. The attempt by the corrupt Sanchez government to divert attention from serious cases of corruption through continual anti-Israeli and antisemitic attacks is evident," said Sa'ar, accusing the Spanish executive of "obsessive activity against Israel" and of "ties to authoritarian and dark regimes, from the ayatollah regime in Iran to Maduro's government in Venezuela."
The Israeli minister stated that there is a "clear lack of historical awareness of the crimes committed by Spain against the Jewish people" and said that Madrid is "deliberately and grossly damaging" bilateral relations. Sa'ar also announced sanctions against Spanish Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz and Child and Youth Minister Sira Rego, whose father is Palestinian. Both Diaz and Rego are members of the progressive Sumar platform, which governs in coalition with Pedro Sanchez's PSOE. "It is no longer possible to avoid adopting personal sanctions against members of the Spanish government who have crossed every line," he said.
