Brussels, Sept. 8 (LaPresse) – "I must say that we do not encourage flotillas like this one because fundamentally they can worsen the situation and put their participants at risk. But on the other hand, this does not mean that attacks on these flotillas, such as drone attacks, etc., are justifiable. So we believe the best way to provide humanitarian aid is through our partners. This is what we strive to achieve, to provide large-scale humanitarian aid, and we maintain open channels with Israel and speak with the Israeli authorities," stated European Commission spokesperson Eva Hrncirova at the daily press briefing. "Given the recent case of the Flotilla in June, when participants were essentially arrested and the cargo seized. So it was pointless, and what we tried to do was convince the Israeli authorities not to impose obstacles or logistical or registration issues on our financial partners. We are trying to increase the number of trucks entering Gaza and, above all, to end the suffering of the people of Gaza," she continued. "I can only emphasize that the authorities responsible for ensuring the protection of Gaza are the states to which the citizens belong," added spokesperson Anouar El Anouni. "The EU urges the parties and the international community to make every effort to end these terrible conflicts through an immediate and permanent ceasefire that will allow massive, immediate, and unhindered humanitarian assistance."
