Barcelona (Spain), 5 September. (LaPresse) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani is on a mission to Barcelona today, where he will attend a meeting with Italian and Spanish entrepreneurs, organised in collaboration with the Italian Chambers of Commerce in Spain and the ICE Office in Madrid. Tajani will also hold a bilateral meeting with Spanish Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Carlos Cuerpo. These engagements will provide an opportunity to take stock of economic relations between Rome and Madrid, as well as to discuss the European trade agenda, with a particular focus on the agreement reached by the EU and the US on tariffs and the EU-Mercosur agreement, and opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries in third areas, starting with North Africa and Latin America. Spain accounted for 5.7% of Italy's total trade with the world in 2024, ranking as Italy's fourth largest trading partner globally, overtaking China, and third within the EU. It is also the second largest country in the world in terms of Italian Foreign Direct Investment stock, with over €46 billion, and more than 2,000 Italian companies present in the country. On the sidelines, Tajani will take part in a meeting of the European People's Party. This morning, the minister will present the secretary-general of the EPP and former Spanish minister, Dolors Montserrat, at an event organised by the Nueva Economia Forum.
