Dakar (Senegal), 5 September (LaPresse/AP) – Fifteen deaths are suspected in the Democratic Republic of Congo due to the new Ebola epidemic, out of 28 people who presented symptoms. This was reported by Health Minister Samuel-Roger Kamba, who stressed that the mortality rate, estimated at 53.6%, demonstrates the seriousness of the situation. This is the 16th Ebola epidemic in the Central African country. The confirmed case of Ebola involves a 34-year-old pregnant woman from Boulape, in the southern province of Kasai. Among the suspected cases, which are currently being investigated, are four health workers. All presented with typical Ebola symptoms, such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea and severe bleeding. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has sent experts and medical supplies to Kasai province. The WHO has stated that the Democratic Republic of Congo has stocks of medicines and the Ervebo Ebola vaccine.
