Washington, September 2 (LaPresse) – Judge Charles Breyer has ruled that the Trump administration’s use of National Guard troops during protests against immigration enforcement in Southern California was illegal. Breyer found that the administration violated federal law by deploying troops to accompany federal agents during immigration raids. However, the judge did not order the removal of troops still on site. California filed the lawsuit, arguing that the troops sent to Los Angeles over the summer violated a law prohibiting military enforcement of domestic laws. Trump administration lawyers argued that the Posse Comitatus Act did not apply because the troops were protecting federal agents, not enforcing laws. They also claimed the troops were deployed under presidential authority.
