Brussels, 1 September (LaPresse) – "One thing is very clear: Russia, the predator, must be held accountable for what it has done and must pay, it must pay for the damage and for the aggression. This must be the principle. And so we are considering further use of the windfall profits that have been frozen.‘ This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference in Lithuania with President Gitanas Nauseda. ’We welcome the Lithuanian proposal in general" for the confiscation of assets. ‘What we are doing right now is taking the windfall profits from the mobilised resources and channelling them directly to Ukraine, for defence or reconstruction. So far, €3.7 billion has been generated from windfall profits and more will come in regularly, but we are also thinking about the next steps and how best to use these resources,’ she added.
