New York, August 30 (LaPresse) – The spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, stated that Israel’s decision to end daily tactical pauses in Gaza City, now declared a "dangerous combat zone," threatens both the lives of people and the ability of humanitarian workers to operate.
UN teams reported that, although the pauses allowed space for humanitarian action, "bombings were still observed in the areas and at the times when such pauses were declared," he said.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) emphasized that "life-saving relief operations must be made possible, not canceled."
Dujarric warned that forcing people to move further south risks being "a recipe for disaster" and could amount to forced displacement.
He stated that the United Nations expects their work to be facilitated, reminding parties that civilians and humanitarian facilities "must be protected at all times."
