Madrid (Spain), 29 August. (LaPresse) – Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has written a letter to EU High Representative Kaja Kallas urging her to act “immediately” and “with determination” to “increase pressure” on the Israeli government to lift the siege of Gaza and “accept the two-state solution”. The news was reported by Europa Press, which had access to the letter. Albares asked Kallas to take action ‘in the face of the unsustainable humanitarian situation in Gaza,’ insisting that the blockade of humanitarian aid continues, which ‘is causing an induced famine for two million people’ and represents ‘a challenge to the provisional measures dictated by the International Court of Justice and the resolutions of the UN Security Council.’ "The EU must act decisively now, increasing pressure on the Israeli government to lift the siege of Gaza and accept the two-state solution. Israel is hindering peace with the expansion of new settlements in the West Bank, as well as with military operations in this territory, which weaken the Palestinian National Authority, the EU's partner for peace in the region," Albares warned. The minister announced that he will propose new measures during the informal Foreign Affairs Council meeting being held today and tomorrow in Copenhagen, Denmark.
