Brussels, 28 August (LaPresse) – ‘I have just spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and then with US President Donald Trump, following the massive attack on Kyiv that also hit our EU offices. Putin must sit down at the negotiating table.’ This was written by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on social media. ‘We must ensure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine with solid and credible security guarantees that will transform the country into a steel porcupine. Europe will play its part to the full. Our SAFE defence instrument, for example, will be important in strengthening the courageous Ukrainian armed forces,’ von der Leyen remarked.
