Vatican City, Aug 27 (LaPresse) –
“Last Friday we prayed with fasting for our brothers and sisters who are suffering because of war. I once again issue a strong appeal to all parties involved and to the international community to put an end to the conflict in the Holy Land, which has brought so much terror, destruction, and death,” said Pope Leo XIV at the end of Wednesday's general audience.

“I plead for the release of all hostages. Let a permanent ceasefire be reached, and humanitarian aid be allowed to enter,” he added.

In the Holy Land, “international humanitarian law must be fully respected, particularly the duty to protect civilians and the prohibitions on collective punishment, indiscriminate use of force, and forced displacement of populations,” the Pope continued.

Cardinal Prevost also aligned himself with the joint declaration by the Greek Orthodox and Latin Patriarchs, who “yesterday called for an end to this spiral of violence, an end to the war, and for the common good of people to be made a priority.”
