Middle East: Berlin criticises Israel for its plans on Gaza

Frankfurt (Germany), 25 August (LaPresse) – Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has criticised the Israeli government for its plans to advance into Gaza. Germany's credibility as a global European player depends on the consistency of German policy – in defending international law, rejecting terrorism and protecting civilian life – Wadephul told the Croatian Ambassadors' Conference in the capital Zagreb, adding that ‘in our view, the Israeli government's decision to take control of Gaza City and intensify ground operations does not serve any of these objectives’.
