Cairo (Egypt), Aug. 24 (LaPresse/AP) – The Health Ministry of Yemen’s Houthi rebels has stated that at least two people have been killed and another 35 injured following Israeli airstrikes that hit the capital, Sanaa. The Iran-backed Houthis said the raids struck several areas of the city. The rebels’ Al-Masirah satellite TV reported an attack on an oil company. The Israeli military said it targeted the Asar and Hizaz power plants, calling them "an important source of electricity for military activities," as well as a military site housing the presidential palace. Some residents in Sanaa told the Associated Press they heard loud explosions near a closed military academy and the presidential palace, and saw plumes of smoke close to Sabeen Square, a central gathering place in the capital. "The sound of the explosions was very strong," said Hussein Mohamed, who lives near the presidential palace. Ahmed al-Mekhlafy said he felt the force of the attacks. "The house shook and the windows shattered," he told the Associated Press by phone.
