Rome, 22 August (LaPresse) – According to Channel 12, Israel is expected to launch its new offensive on Gaza City in mid-September, about two weeks after the newly called-up reservists are due to report for duty on 2 September. According to the broadcaster, around one million Palestinians currently in Gaza City will be asked to evacuate as early as Sunday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to be pushing to speed up the start of the operation, while the army would first like to take measures to safeguard hostages and troops, evacuate Palestinians from Gaza City and ensure the international legitimacy of the operation. According to reports, Israel believes that the imminent operation in Gaza City is putting strong pressure on Hamas, likely leading to greater flexibility in the talks. Informed sources say that there are currently no substantial disagreements between Israel and Hamas on a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages, but “everything depends on Netanyahu”.
