Rome, 20 August (LaPresse) – ‘The military offensive on Gaza being prepared by Israel could lead to a real disaster for both peoples and drag the region into a permanent war.’ This was written on X by French President Emmanuel Macron after telephone talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. According to Macron, the only way forward is to ‘establish a permanent ceasefire in Gaza’ with ‘the release of all hostages,’ the entry of ‘massive humanitarian aid’ for the civilian population, and the ‘disarmament of Hamas’ with the ‘strengthening’ of the Palestinian National Authority. ‘We will work for a political solution that meets the aspirations of the Israeli and Palestinian peoples,’ he added. ‘It is the only viable path, not towards war, but towards peace and security for all.’
