Myanmar: elections to begin on 28 December

Rome, August 18. (LaPresse) – The military junta in power in Myanmar announced today that the country’s elections will begin on December 28, marking the start of a gradual voting process. The elections have been boycotted by opposition groups and criticized by international observers. "The first phase of the multi-party democratic general elections for each parliament will begin on Sunday, December 28, 2025," stated the Union Election Commission in a press release. "Dates for the subsequent phases will be announced later," it added.
