Toronto (Canada), 16 August (LaPresse/AP) – The Canadian government has forced Air Canada and the union representing flight attendants into arbitration after a work stoppage stranded more than 100,000 travellers worldwide during the peak summer season. Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu said it was not the time to take risks with the economy as she announced the intervention. This means that 10,000 flight attendants will soon return to work. The shutdown of Canada's largest airline, which began on Saturday morning, is causing disruption to around 130,000 people a day, and around 25,000 Canadians could be stranded. Air Canada operates around 700 flights a day.
