Middle East, Macron: ‘Gaza needs a UN-mandated mission’

Turin, August 11 (LaPresse) – To achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, French President Emmanuel Macron proposes "a stabilization mission under UN mandate to secure the Gaza Strip, protect the civilian population, and support Palestinian governance, which alone can meet the needs of Gaza’s people and lead disarmament and demilitarization operations of Hamas."
"France wants to act for Israel’s security, the release of hostages, the resumption of humanitarian efforts, and support for the Palestinian population," the head of state explained, declaring "'no' to an Israeli military operation" and "'yes' to an international coalition under UN mandate to fight terrorism, stabilize Gaza, support its people, and establish a government of peace and stability."
Macron then called on the Security Council "to work on establishing this mission and granting it a mandate."
"I have asked my teams to work on it without delay with our partners," he said, adding that, in his view, it is "the only credible way out of an unacceptable situation for the hostages' families and the people of Gaza" and "the only credible path to begin ending the perpetual war and rebuilding peace and security for all."
