Berlin (Germany), 6 August (LaPresse/AP) – A motorist was caught driving at over 320 km/h on the motorway west of Berlin, on a stretch where the speed limit was 120 km/h. The driver, whose identity has not been revealed, was stopped while speeding along the A2 motorway near Burg on 28 July. The driver was fined €900, had two points deducted from his licence and had his licence suspended for three months, according to Magdeburg police. A roadside radar device, known as an “Enforcement Trailer”, stopped him during a routine check. The display showed a “record speed” of 321 km/h, police said. Germany's famous motorways have attracted interest and fascination around the world for their lack of speed limits. German authorities and motoring clubs have debated over the years whether to keep this rule. However, unlimited speeds are not universal on motorways, as some sections are subject to speed limits. In fact, the section where the record-breaking driver was stopped has a speed limit of 120 km/h.
