Washington (USA), 5 August (LaPresse) – The House Oversight Committee has summoned the Department of Justice for documents relating to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. The Republican-controlled committee has also issued subpoenas calling former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and eight former senior law enforcement officials to testify. The subpoena issued by the committee's chairman, Republican James Comer, requires the Justice Department to hand over documents related to Epstein by 19 August. Comer also subpoenaed several high-profile officials from Republican and Democratic administrations. In particular, for all communications about Epstein between former President Joe Biden and his administration, along with subpoenas for prominent politicians from past Republican and Democratic administrations, including Bill and Hillary Clinton; former FBI Director James Comey; former Justice Secretaries Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder and Alberto Gonzales; as well as former Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The subpoena by a Republican-led House underscores the pressure on Donald Trump and Republicans to release the documents, as the MAGA base continues to demand transparency on the matter.
