Turin, Aug. 5 (LaPresse) – “We are grateful to Denmark, Norway, and Sweden for their swift action in funding a U.S. military support package for Ukraine. This will provide life-saving equipment and essential supplies to the front line, strengthening Ukraine’s position and helping deter aggression in pursuit of lasting peace.” So wrote NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on X, commenting on the announcement by the three countries of a $500 million commitment to purchase U.S. weapons. NATO began coordinating regular deliveries of large weapons packages to Ukraine after the Netherlands announced it would provide air defense equipment, ammunition, and other military aid worth €500 million ($578 million). Today, Sweden also announced it would contribute $275 million to a joint effort with its Nordic neighbors Denmark and Norway to deliver $500 million in air defenses, anti-tank weapons, ammunition, and spare parts. Two equipment deliveries, most of which were purchased in the U.S., are expected this month, although the Nordic package is scheduled to arrive in September. The equipment is provided based on Ukraine’s battlefield priority needs. NATO allies then identify the weapons and ammunition and send them. “The packages will be prepared quickly and delivered regularly,” NATO stated on Monday.
