Gaza, Tajani: "We are in favor of recognizing Palestine, but there must be a state first"

Rome, August 4 (LaPresse) – In Gaza “there is a massacre,” while genocide “means the deliberate choice to eliminate all Palestinians. What is happening is certainly unacceptable and inhumane, but I don't believe the goal is to eliminate the Palestinians—rather, to push them out of Palestine. That is something we absolutely do not agree with,” said Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Radio anch’io on Rai Radio 1.
“We, as Italy, are committed to the reconstruction effort,” he added. “We are absolutely in favor of recognizing the Palestinian State, but to recognize it, a Palestinian State must first exist. We must work to ensure it comes into being. Recognizing it theoretically has so far not produced any positive results. Israel has neither responded nor changed its position just because some countries have recognized it,” he continued.
“We must focus on concrete actions. We too support a Palestinian State—we have never hidden that. We are working intensely so that the Palestinian National Authority can be the only recognized authority, because it is non-violent, while Hamas is a terrorist organization.”
