Milan, 3 August (LaPresse) – "To date, approximately 145 countries recognise the Palestinian state. But this recognition is completely irrational, first and foremost because there is no real Palestinian state. Secondly, because if it existed today, it would be a Hamas state.‘ Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said this in an interview with Libero, expressing his “displeasure” at the statements made by Italian President Sergio Mattarella, who said that ’the Israeli government's refusal to respect humanitarian law in Gaza is unacceptable." “We have great respect for him and for Italy, but our President Herzog and I responded by emphasising that we are acting in full compliance with international law”. Regarding the humanitarian aid arriving from Italy for the people of the Gaza Strip, Saar explains that this is not a problem for them. ‘Italy has always been at the forefront of humanitarian aid. My friend Antonio Tajani led the “Food for Gaza” project and we facilitated it,’ he said.
