Milan, 29 July (LaPresse/AP) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the United Kingdom will recognise the State of Palestine in September unless Israel meets certain conditions, namely agreeing to a ceasefire in Gaza and taking steps towards peace. The news emerged from an emergency meeting of the British Cabinet. Starmer convened ministers for a rare summer meeting to discuss the situation in Gaza and told them that London would recognise the Palestinian state before the UN General Assembly "unless the Israeli government takes concrete steps to end the terrible situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, clarify that there will be no annexation of the West Bank, and commit to a long-term peace process leading to a two-state solution'.
