Germany, police: ‘At least three dead in train derailment’

Frankfurt (Germany), 27 July (LaPresse) – "Two carriages of a regional express train derailed on the railway line between Sigmaringen and Ulm in the early hours of Sunday evening. According to ongoing investigations, three people have died and other passengers have been seriously injured.‘ This was reported to LaPresse by a spokeswoman for the Ulm police. ’The Stuttgart Federal Police and the Ulm Police Headquarters were informed at around 6:10 p.m. of a train derailment between Riedlingen and Munderkingen. Several carriages of a regional express train bound for Ulm were involved. The cause of the accident is being investigated,‘ the spokeswoman said, adding that ’the Federal Police and Ulm Police are on site with a large number of emergency services. The railway line and the adjacent K7345 remain closed to traffic until further notice. The railway company has organised replacement services, and a meeting point for family members has been set up at the community centre in Daugendorf.
