Milan, July 24 (LaPresse) – The Italian Consulate in Miami has successfully arranged the transfer of Fernando Eduardo Artese and Gaetano Cateno Mirabella Costa, the two Italian nationals who had been detained for several days at Alligator Alcatraz, to the ICE facility in Krome (Miami), the Foreign Ministry announced. Their families have been informed and have already deposited funds into the so-called “detainee account”—a kind of prepaid card available to detainees for permitted expenses—to allow them to purchase airline tickets as soon as permitted by U.S. authorities. In particular, the family of Mr. Mirabella Costa also sent his personal belongings to the Krome facility, which will be held by ICE to ensure he can return to Italy once authorized by the immigration judge. Mr. Artese may be able to return to Italy very soon, while Mr. Mirabella Costa will have to appear before a judge to review the charges against him. One of the two, whose passport had expired, has been issued a new temporary passport, which Florida authorities have accepted and recognized. This document may speed up the expulsion process.
