Turin, July 24 (LaPresse) – "In keeping with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine. I will make the formal announcement at the United Nations General Assembly this coming September," announced French President Emmanuel Macron on X.

"The immediate urgency is to stop the fighting in Gaza and to bring aid to the civilian population. Peace is possible," he explained. "There must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and large-scale humanitarian assistance for Gaza’s population. In addition," he added, "we must ensure the demilitarization of Hamas, secure and rebuild Gaza. Finally, it is necessary to build the State of Palestine, guarantee its viability, and ensure that by accepting demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel, it contributes to the security of all in the Middle East. There is no alternative."

"The French people want peace in the Middle East. It is up to us, together with Israelis, Palestinians, and our European and international partners, to prove it is possible," he continued. "In light of the commitments made to me by the President of the Palestinian Authority, I have written to him to express my determination to move forward. Trust, clarity, and commitment. We will achieve peace," Macron concluded.
